Senior Associate Sarah Tishler Awarded Pro Bono Star Award by Human Rights First
Williams Simons & Landis is pleased to announce that Senior Associate Sarah Tishler has been awarded the Pro Bono Star Award by Human Rights First, an independent advocacy and action organization that pairs lawyers with asylum-seekers who cannot afford the legal representation they need. The Pro Bono Star Award commends attorneys who demonstrate extraordinary commitment to cases for asylum or related forms of immigration protection.
Ms. Tishler is recognized for her representation of Ms. D, an asylum seeker from Haiti who suffered grave persecution due to her political opinions. Ms. Tishler’s advocacy for Ms. D began in May of 2016, and in September of 2018 won Ms. D’s asylum case before an immigration judge in New York City. Ms. Tishler continued to represent Ms. D in a pregnancy discrimination complaint against her employer, and prepared her green card application, which was granted in March 2022. Continuing her work, Ms. Tishler is currently assisting Ms. D’s parents and husband in their immigration proceedings. Ms. Tishler’s representation of the D family has spanned six years as she maintained the representation across three law firms.
The firm is proud to support its attorneys in their pro bono efforts and we congratulate Ms. Tishler on her exemplary work on behalf of Ms. D. and her family.
