Estech Resolves VoIP Patent Lawsuit Against Competitor Mitel Networks During East Texas Trial

Austin, Texas—August 21, 2023

Williams Simons & Landis PLLC has resolved the last of its 37 patent infringement cases previously filed on behalf of Estech Systems (Plano, Texas) in the Eastern and Western Districts of Texas. The settlement of the case against Estech’s competitor Mitel Networks was announced in open court today in Marshall, Texas. Trial of the matter began on August 18, 2023, presided over by Eastern District Chief Judge Rodney Gilstrap.

The Court immediately stayed all case deadlines and thanked the jurors for their service. Terms of the announced settlement are confidential.

The case involved alleged infringement of Voice over Internet Protocol and voicemail patents held by Estech Systems IP LLC.

“As the trial progressed, and after years of active litigation about these patents and Mitel’s products and services, we saw the opportunity to resolve the case amicably,” said firm founder Fred I. Williams. “We appreciate the jury’s attention to these important issues for both companies, and particularly appreciate the efforts of the Court and its staff in administering justice in this case.”

Estech Systems was represented by Fred I. Williams, Todd E. Landis, John Wittenzellner, Lea N. Brigtsen, Robert Rhodes, and Alec Perry. The trial team was supported by paralegals Cris Challis, Adam Fitzgerald, and Marina Chernenko, and firm administrator Rose Sullivan.
